Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Screen kindergarten, first grade and new students to the district, if applicable. 2. Conduct speech/language evaluations as part of comprehensive case study. 3. Conduct re-evaluation as required by law. 4. Evaluate students based upon screening results and referrals from teachers, parents and physicians. 5. Participate in preschool/kindergarten screenings. 6. Administer pre/post-diagnostic tools for each student receiving therapy. DIRECT SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop an I.E.P. for each student receiving speech/language only services to meet individual student’s needs and correct existing speech or language handicap. 2. Develop goals and objectives for students receiving speech/language in combination with other special education services. 3. Provide speech/language services including management of articulation, language, voice and fluency disorders. 4. Participate as part of the multidisciplinary team by advising on matters of speech and language. 5. Provide consultative services to other professional personnel as needed. 6. Consult with teachers on the classroom speech/language needs of speech students. 7. Set up a therapeutic program schedule and set priorities for those to be included in the schedule. School Speech/Language Pathologist Page 2 Job Description 8. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, district policy, and regulations. 9. Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Attend required meetings. 2. Refer students to other agencies as appropriate. 3. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, principals, and teachers regarding progress of all assigned students. 4. Maintain communication with other personnel. 5. Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students. 6. Develop his/her own professional growth through reading, workshops, inservices, conference and/or advanced coursework. 7. Perform other duties, as necessary, to provide speech/language services as assigned by the Director of Special Education or Assistant Director of Special Education.

Qualifications

1. Type 10 certificate, State of Illinois for the area of Speech/Language approval. 2. Masters Degree from a recognized NCATE college or university. 3. Out of state applicants must be able to meet Illinois certification standards or approval. 4. Other qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable
