1. Position: Para-educator
2. Immediate supervisor: Building principal and assigned faculty member
3. Qualifications:
A. Current state approved para and NCLB certificate
B. Must be a high school graduate and pass the ETS Para Assessment or
have an Associate Degree or 60 hours of college experience
C. Level of professionalism, such as proper handling of confidential information
D. Prior para-educator experience preferred
4. Duties:
A. Works with an individual student or small groups of students to reinforce learning of
material or skills
B. Assists the teacher in devising and implementing special strategies for reinforcing
material or skills based on best practice strategies
C. Assists the teacher in providing behavioral support on an individual, small group,
and/or classroom; including the implementation of behavioral interventions and
gathering of data
D. Operates and cares for equipment used in the building/classroom for instructional
purposes
E. Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher
F. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, lunch,
recess and field trips
G. Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud and storytelling
H. Reads to students, listens to students read and participates in other forms of oral
communication with students
I. Assists students in study hall, library or media center
J. Assists students with personal care, when necessary.
K. Assists students with personal care and adapted daily living skills when necessary.
L. Checks notebooks, corrects papers and supervises testing
M. Checks and records attendance, as directed
N. Assists with lunch, snack and cleanup routines
O. Alerts the classroom teacher to any problem or special information about an
individual student
P. Participates in professional development training programs
Q. Administers, scores and records achievement, CBM and diagnostic tests
R. Other duties as assigned by teacher or administrator
