Duties
- Instruction and Supervision of Students
- Assist teachers in the learning process as directed throughout the school year or at times assigned to meet IEP requirements
- Assist teachers with supervision of students
- Assist teachers in organizing, preparing, and distributing materials
- Carry out instructional activities initiated by the teachers and under the direct supervision of the teacher
- Assist students in instructional activities
- Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies for reinforcing content, skills, or behaviors based on an empathetic understanding of individual students
- Assist students with self-help skills as directed by the teacher
- Assume supervisory responsibilities related to lunch, playground, community-based instruction, field trips, and hall supervision
- Serve as the chief source of information and help any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the classroom teacher
- Complete tasks to support students in their successful participation in learning and schools, including but not limited to supervision, toileting, feeding, and mobility
- List and/or assist in lifting students weighing up to 50 pounds as needed
- Document and report student behavior to teachers or the Principal
- Other Duties
- Perform clerical duties as assigned (e.g., preparation of materials needed for students, monitor and document student progress and behaviors)
- Communicate regularly with teachers and other support staff
- Participate in in-service training programs
- Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
- Perform related duties as assigned
Risk Management Responsibilities
- Collaborate with supervisors to develop and maintain safe conditions for the well-being of students, faculty, employees, volunteers, and visitors.
- Adhere to safety guidelines outlined in the District Risk Management Plan.
- Implement necessary precautions to ensure the safety of physical property, including equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Identify and report hazardous conditions that may pose a risk to individuals or property.
- Monitor and report unauthorized persons or suspicious items on school property.
- Identify and report signs of neglect or abuse in students based on physical condition or behavior.
- Adhere to all federal, state, local, and District policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
Qualifications
Must be eligible for or hold a Paraprofessional Educator License; interest in education and children, ability to complete tasks efficiently and on time; computer experience; knowledge of instructional practices; ability to work cooperatively in a school team environment.
