Duties

POSITION GOAL:

To instruct and supervise students in the absence of the regular, certified teacher. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive):

Non-lnstructional:

  • Reports to school office of assigned building prior to the start of the student day.
  • Completes required student attendance per building procedures.
  • Attends efficiently to the non-instructional tasks assigned to the regular teacher.
  • Reports to the office for messages and to check out at the end of the day.

Planning and Preparation:

  • Reviews lesson plans and instructions prior to students arriving in classroom.
  • Examines/reviews building crisis plan.
  • Finds seating chart and attendance book.

Instruction:

  • Implements all lesson plans per the teacher’s directions.
  • Provides efficient and meaningful use of instructional time.
  • Leaves notes about any plans not covered with explanations.

Safety:

  • Reports all emergencies immediately to the building administrator.
  • Reports all student health or medical concerns to the building nurse or administrator.
  • Implements the crisis plan per building procedures.
  • Supervises assigned students at all times, never leaving them unattended.

Classroom Management:

  • Follows building and classroom expectations and procedures.
  • Ensures that the physical environment of the classroom is left in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Establishes and maintains student discipline in an environment conducive to teaching and learning.

Professionalism:

  • Conducts oneself in a professional manner with respect to students, staff, and parents.
  • Wears appropriate attire.
  • Completes evaluation form on the teacher’s preparation for substitute coverage.

EVALUATION:

Primary evaluator will be the regular teacher substituted for or the building Principal.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS:

  1. Hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree
  2. Have an Illinois Teaching Certificate or Substitute Certificate, registered with the Peoria Regional Office of Education
