Duties
Mendota District #289 is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Primary Functional Cross Categorical Resource Teacher (LBS1) to serve students in Grades K–3. The teacher will provide specialized instruction and case management services for students with diverse learning needs in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Illinois School Code, and Illinois Administrative Code Part 226.
This position focuses on building foundational academic skills, social-emotional development, and functional independence through individualized instruction aligned to Illinois Learning Standards. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are strongly preferred to support communication with students and families.
- Provide direct, small-group and individualized instruction in foundational reading, writing, mathematics, and functional academics.
- Implement evidence-based literacy and numeracy interventions appropriate for primary learners.
- Support development of executive functioning, communication, and social skills.
- Deliver instruction in daily living and school-readiness skills.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning and developmental needs.
IEP & Compliance
- Serve as case manager for assigned students.
- Develop, implement, and monitor compliant IEPs.
- Collect and analyze data to measure student progress toward IEP goals.
- Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings with families and team members.
- Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Collaboration & Inclusion
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and implementation of accommodations and modifications.
- Work closely with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, social work).
- Support Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
- Provide guidance and direction to paraprofessionals.
Behavior & Social-Emotional Support
- Develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) based on Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
- Use positive behavior supports and trauma-informed practices.
- Foster a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.

Salary and Benefits conform to the current teacher's contract and salary schedule with reference to experience and education.
Additional Notes

The ideal candidate will be an exemplary teacher who holds an Illinois teacher license with a Special education certification PK-21.
