Share: Print: Duties Plans and implements a range of teaching programs or courses of study. Provides a child safe environment in accordance with the child safe standards. Teaches an area of the curriculum or a general curriculum to a year level. Monitors, evaluates, and reports student progress in key learning areas. Implements strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes. Maintains records of class attendance and records student progress in the school selected data tool. Implements effective student management consistent with the school handbook. Establishes an organized and welcoming classroom. Participates in professional learning activities to maintain teacher certification and expand personal growth in knowledge, skills, and practices. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects to communicate these objectives to students. Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Remains available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, such as parent teacher conferences. May be required to perform other duties as assigned by the building administrators. Qualifications Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL) for the particular position as required by the State or hold a valid substitute teaching license. Grade Range: (8-12) If serving as a special education teacher, hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) endorsed for LBSI, DHH, BVI, or SLP. Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office). Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff). Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
