INSTRUCTIONAL COACH

Position Goal: The job of Instructional Coach was established for the purpose of providing support for teachers in the implementation of effective instructional practices to ensure high academic achievement of all students. This position is designed to increase individual and collective teacher capacity to provide leadership for change. The Coach will strive to develop a community of learners that are reflective decision makers, who can identify, grow and develop new strengths to create a superior instructional program in our schools. This will be done by developing mutually productive and trusting relationships. The ultimate goal of the position is to improve instructional expertise by working directly with teachers rather than students.
Board/Superintendent:
- Observe and adhere to all Board of Education policies and regulations, and all administrative rules and procedures
- Attend Board meetings when necessary to provide supportive materials and information
- Follow all State of Illinois codes relative to the requirements of the Educational program and curriculum
- Communicate educational initiatives, objectives and programs to the Administration, Staff and Community
Building:
- Provide coaching support to staff within the classroom setting including modeling and feedback.
- Ability to build professional coaching relationships, solve problems, plan collaboratively and provide feedback effectively.
- Provides leadership for teachers by assisting with planning, organizing, mentoring, and modeling of best instructional practices.
- Demonstrates appropriate use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for education.
- Performs other duties related to the improvement of student achievement.
- Exhibit patience and perseverance to support colleagues through the change process
- Assist staff in gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and identifying learning concerns for the purpose of instructional decision-making
- Desire to close achievement gaps and ensure that teachers are coached to serve every child, regardless of background or circumstance
- Work with the Professional Development Committee, school leadership teams and administrators to provide ongoing professional development based on the needs within the schools and the district and based upon organizational goals
- Maintain a professional coaching log of work with staff for the superintendent on a monthly basis
- Participate in professional development activities with colleagues (conferences, workshops, etc.) on appropriate topics.
- Collaborate with staff, including other Coaches, as assigned
- Conduct collaborative conversations with teachers.
- Create detailed coaching plans, which include focused goals and measures of success
- Other duties as assigned.
Individual:
- Exhibit confidentiality in relation to students, parents and faculty.
- Develop a positive working relationship with administration, staff, students and parents
- Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth and development by attending meetings, workshops, conferences and continuing education classes as related to Common Core, Professional Learning Communities, STEM and other topics
- Remain current on effective teaching practices, techniques and learning strategies, literature, new research findings, technology and data collection
- Adhere to the new PERA law and Senate Bill 7 which describes the Illinois Learning Standards and requirements for good teaching
- Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect District equipment and facilities
- Be knowledgeable of and adhere to the District Safety Plan
Qualifications
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) appropriate for grade level and academic area endorsement or approval as per ISBE
