Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS – May include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Demonstrates clear knowledge of content and pedagogy and utilizes a variety of approaches to meet the needs of students;
- Demonstrates knowledge of the impact of hearing impairments and additional disabilities on students and their learning experiences;
- Sets appropriate instructional outcomes through the development and implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and viable methods of assessment;
- Demonstrates knowledge of available resources through the district, community, professional organizations or university; facilitate acquisition of specialized equipment and maintains inventory; uses appropriate assistive technology for students with hearing impairments;
- Designs coherent instruction and provides direct instruction and/or consultation that are differentiated and support instructional outcomes;
- Designs student assessments that are aligned with instructional outcomes and uses assessment data to develop individualized instructional strategies to enhance learning;
- Creates an environment of respect and rapport appropriate to the age group;
- Establishes a culture for learning that conveys an enthusiasm for learning and high expectations;
- Manages classroom procedures and keeps students productively engaged with smooth transitions;
- Maintains effective behavior management to create a positive learning environment;
- Organizes physical space that is safe for all children and allows for equal access to learning;
- Demonstrates knowledge and effective use of various communication strategies with students; understands and employs American Sign Language and Signed Exact English when appropriate;
- Uses questioning and discussion techniques that are of high quality and engage all students;
- Schedules/plans/monitors IEP implementation using a variety of service delivey models and activities to engage students;
- Uses assessment data to guide instruction and help students monitor their progress;
- Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness by adjusting lessons, providing accommodations, seeking new approaches;
- Regularly reflects on the effectiveness of a lesson and how to make improvements;
- Maintains accurate student records; submits requested documents within established timelines;
- Communicates frequently with families and engages them in the instructional program;
- Participates in the professional community maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, students and families;
- Seeks targeted professional development, develops goals or professional growth plan, shares and is responsive to feedback;
- Displays professionalism, honesty, integrity, ethical practice and confidentiality; implements IEP services and requirements within legally mandated timelines; complies with the provisions of the IDEA; follows designated schedule, attendance policy and is punctual;
- May be required to perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Licensed as per Illinois State Board of Education requirements; Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills; Possesses a valid driver’s license and maintains automotive insurance coverage as required by IL law
Salary/Benefits
Daily rate will be based on experience; range between $227 and $380/day. Employees must work a minimum of 30 hours a week to receive board paid insurance and other benefits. Sick and personal days will be prorated for a 50% employee; 7.5 sick days and 1.5 personal days.
