Duties

? Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and in the case of living languages, speak
the language.
? Practice teaching within the district, or two years successful teaching experience outside the
district, half in the field of foreign language.
? Teaches skills and knowledge in foreign language instruction to secondary pupils, utilizing
appropriate learning activities, modern foreign language teachers (French, German, and
Spanish) teach aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. Reinforces
grammatical terms and functions similar to both Spanish and English. Teaches conjugation,
morphology, syntax, and translation of supplementary literature.
? Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and
administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
? Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional
philosophy.
? Provides learning experiences which develop the basic communication skills, utilizing tape
recorders, video cameras, VCR’s and other electronic equipment as appropriate.
? Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the
needs of each pupil.
? Instructs pupils in safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction.
Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs as required.
? Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of cultures and languages around the world.
? Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly,
productive classroom environment.
? Evaluates each pupil’s progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing the
foreign language in relationship to the level being taught.
? Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides, and instructional supplies, and maintains
required inventory records.
? Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.

? Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils
solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
? Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
? Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
? Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
? Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the
district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities, such as foreign language
workshops.
? Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which
s/he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.

Qualifications

? Shall hold a valid certification for teaching a foreign language grades 7-12.
? Demonstrated ability to read, write, understand, and in the case of living languages, speak
the language.
? Practice teaching within the district, or two years successful teaching experience outside the
district, half in the field of foreign language.
? Shall meet requirements of SB 7 and Illinois State Board of Education program for
Evaluation, Supervision and Recognition of Schools.
