Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for administering all interscholastic policies and procedures of the Alton School District Board of Education, the Illinois High School Association, and the Southwestern Conference
- Responsible for interviewing all new candidates for coaching positions and in cooperation with the principal, make recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools
- Observe coaches and evaluate their performance in terms of responsibilities and job expectations
- Evaluate and recommend improvement of athletic facilities
- Responsible for the development of all athletic team game schedules and maintaining a file of contracts for all approved contests
- Responsible for contracting all game officials including those assigned by the Southwestern Conference
- Interpret Board of Education, IHSA, and Southwestern Conference policies and appropriate training and guidance for all coaches in the athletic program
- Resolve conflicts that may develop within the athletic department and reports such to the Principal. When appropriate, the Principal and/or Superintendent of Schools shall be involved in the resolution of the conflict
- Seek and find supplemental ways to support and finance the athletic programs
- Responsible for making arrangements for transportation, lodging and meals for all athletic events, when required
- Solicit equipment requests from head coaches, evaluate such requests, and approve appropriate orders
- Attend and/or arranges for proper supervision of all home athletic contests and coordinates, with the Principal, any needed supervision for away contests
- Maintain and promote athletic social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter)
- Provide district with a weekly recap of athletic events, including scores and celebrations of student athletes.
- Maintain an appropriate file of players, medical examinations, insurance forms/waivers, parent consent forms, payment of fees, etc. Discuss medical concerns with the Principal
- Maintain a file of all athletic suspensions and expulsions from athletic teams
- Responsible for determining whether or not coaches are uniformly applying the athletic policies and procedures
- Responsible for determining scholastic eligibility of all participants in the athletic program on a weekly/grading period/semester basis and for certifying this eligibility in the proper manner
- Approve the expenditure of funds from the athletic budget for coaches to attend clinics and state tournament finals
- Work in conjunction with the Superintendent and principal in developing the annual budget for the athletic program
- Coordinate the use of all athletic facilities used by the athletic teams of the Alton School District
- Responsible for the printing of tickets, ticket sales, and deposit of gate receipts
- Provide for the distribution, cleaning, repairing and storing of all athletic equipment and maintaining a perpetual inventory of all equipment
- Arrange for trainers or appropriate medical personnel at all home contests
- Participate in athletic feeder programs (elementary, middle school and community) to increase participation and competitive opportunities as students transition to high school
- Coordinate the various athletic awards programs in cooperation with the appropriate booster club and with the approval of the Principal
- Promote publicity for the athletic program as a whole and assists in the publicity of specific programs
- Coordinate with the appropriate district personnel the repair and maintenance of the athletic facilities
- Responsible for making the necessary arrangements to provide ushers, parking, security and other services required by the athletic program
- Represent the school, along with the Principal, as voting members at Southwestern Conference meetings
- Serve as the district liaison for all athletic booster club organizations
- Responsible for the annual review of the athletic policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/Principal as necessary

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To administer the athletic program of the district within the policies and administrative procedures established by the Alton School District Board of Education, the Illinois High School Association and the Southwestern Conference. The applicant is to provide the overall leadership and coordination for the various athletic programs and facilitate the operation and organization of these programs so they become an integral and positive part of the total program in the Alton School District.
