Duties

Band Director – Bishop McNamara Catholic School & St. Paul’s Lutheran School

The Band Director will be responsible for band instruction at three elementary school sites: Bishop McNamara Bradley Site, Bishop McNamara Bourbonnais Site, and St. Paul’s Lutheran School, as well as directing the high school and junior high band programs at the Bishop McNamara Kankakee Site. This position offers autonomy over all band programs and creative freedom to develop the program according to the director’s vision.  

Instructional Expectations

Under the general supervision of the school principals, the Band Director will:  

- Serve as a positive role model and support the teachings of the Church at all times.  

- Foster a vibrant culture within the band program, reflected in words, actions, and demeanor.  

- Facilitate student growth in musical skill, performance, and teamwork.  

- Document student progress, participation, and performance outcomes.  

- Actively engage in faculty committees, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and school events.  

- Utilize technology to enhance music instruction and student engagement.  

- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual students.  

- Maintain a structured, positive, and inspiring learning environment.  

- Provide regular feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress and goals. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Serve as a model of professionalism, musicianship, and Christian values.  

- Develop and implement a comprehensive band curriculum for elementary, junior high, and high school levels.  

- Promote a rehearsal and performance environment that is disciplined, encouraging, and artistically enriching.  

- Plan and execute engaging lessons, rehearsals, and performances.  

- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate varying skill levels and learning styles.  

- Assess student progress and adjust instruction to ensure continuous improvement.  

- Stay current with best practices in music education through professional development.  

- Maintain accurate records of student participation, progress, and performances.  

- Encourage parental and community involvement in band activities.  

- Ensure student conduct aligns with school and diocesan standards.  

- Collaborate with other faculty members to support school-wide initiatives.  

- Utilize technology to enhance music instruction and administrative tasks.  

- Attend faculty meetings, PLCs, and required professional development.  

- Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, and off-campus events.  

- Complete Catholic identity formation training and other diocesan professional development.  

- Assist in school-wide supervision and discipline as needed.  

- Uphold Christian teachings in both professional and personal conduct. 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

- Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with music endorsement preferred.  

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field ( preferred).  

- Experience: Prior teaching experience in band programs is highly desirable.  

- Performance & Leadership: Demonstrated ability to direct ensembles and organize performances.

-  Beginning Salary Range:  $31,509 – $57,705 (*Final salary based on experience, education, and certification*)

Additional Notes

The band director position splits their time between various elementary sites in Bradley & Bourbonnais teaching 4th-8th grade band, as well as, daily instruction at the high school level as well.
