Duties

Description of Duties:

  1. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of Transportation Department, including but not limited to: scheduling, routing, extra-curricular routing, work assignments, fuel logs, supervision of department staff, maintain daily logs of pre-trip inspections, correspondence, payroll, assessment of staff work performance, work with school administration on student discipline issues (bus cameras), provide assistance and support as warranted.
  2. Illinois statutes - in-service staff on law changes, facilitate staff licensing/permits, physical examinations, drug/alcohol blood testing, refresher/initial classes, and to ensure files are maintained for annual state review and other inspections.
  3. Take the lead with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and local radio vendors to secure and maintain proper licensing and operations of school and bus mobile communication devises.
  4. Assemble all necessary data to complete end-of-year State Pupil Reimbursement Claim Report to Illinois State Board of Education.
  5. Recruit and interview prospective staff; write recommendations to Superintendent and Board of Education for hire, discipline and termination of staff.
  6. Participate in student registration process.
  7. Arrange and conduct monthly Transportation/Safety meetings for all staff, and attend all meetings scheduled by administration.
  8. Work with bus sales and local garages/mechanics to maintain the safe operation of all vehicles.
  9. Work with bus sales companies to arrange for leases, maintenance under warranty, monitoring mileage limits, etc.
  10. Safety - schedule and conduct bus evacuation drills per Illinois statute, arrange for CPR classes, arrange for bi-annual bus State Safety Lane inspections, monitor expiration dates of car seats for disabled students, complete and file student/staff accident reports, communication/coordination with local law enforcement officials and highway department – yellow blinking lights in front of Laraway School – speed limit enforcement – bus stop arm violations.
  11. Initiate and set-up training and testing for new hire bus drivers and monitors.
  12. Advocate for safe roadways with local, regional and state governmental officials.
  13. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Computer skills, typing and bookkeeping skills
  3. Experienced driver with current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  4. Knowledge of school bus safety, mechanics, best practices, laws and responsibilities
  5. High moral character, dedicated and focused on safety

 

Salary/Benefits

Terms of Employment:

12 months employee.  Hours will be 6:30am – 3:30pm unless otherwise directed.  Salary determined by board
