Duties
The Instructional Media Center (IMC) Teacher
Responsible for the management, instruction, and support of the school’s media and technology resources, ensuring alignment with state standards and school-wide educational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Library and Resource Management:
- Oversee the full library inventory, including the ordering, processing, cataloging, and organization of all print and digital materials.
- Manage the check-in and check-out process for student library materials.
- Handle book repairs and coordinate the collection of fees for lost or damaged materials, particularly during end-of-year procedures.
- Instruction and Curriculum Delivery:
- Deliver engaging and standards-aligned instruction based on the IMC curriculum, integrating state computer science standards.
- Foster digital literacy and responsible technology use among students through structured, curriculum-based classes.
- Makerspace Oversight:
- Maintain and manage all makerspace equipment and resources within the library.
- Support student and staff use of makerspace tools, promoting creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. ? Program Support:
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum integration and promote the effective use of media and technology.
- Provide instructional support and resource recommendations to staff and students. Other duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications
Current Valid Illinois PEL
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Use, manage, and maintain Apple Mac Desktop computers
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and difficulties
- Manage and monitor student Learning.com and Destiny accounts.
- Teach various Digital Citizenship units for grades K - 3
- Teach computer skills (hardware, software, apps, old vs new technology, Search Engines, Internet)
- Teach coding using Scratch, Swift, code.org
- Teach productivity programs using Google Workspace for Education
- Teach media programs like We Video, Clips
- Knowledge of PC and MAC hardware and software.
- Knowledge of 3D printing
- Knowledge of a wide range of industrial, technical and technology-related subject areas, as well as best practices in incorporating technology into student learning activities.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Salary/Benefits
Work Schedule - Standard teacher work schedule as set forth in the Teachers' Union Contract.
Additional Notes
Equipment - Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy machines, and telephones.
Travel Requirements- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
