Culinary Technical Education Teacher Responsibilities & Duties
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of students and align with educational standards
- Lead students in hands-on cooking experiences, demonstrating techniques and facilitating collaboration
- Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback to support growth and development
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to maintain a positive learning environment
- Stay current with industry trends and incorporate them into the curriculum
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-equipped kitchen lab
- Participate in professional development opportunities to continue growth as a teacher
Qualifications
Culinary Technical Education Teacher Requirements & Qualifications & Skills
- Master's degree in Education or a related field
- Certification as a culinary educator
- Experience teaching in a technical or vocational education setting
- Knowledge of industry-standard kitchen equipment and tools
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
- Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Education, or a related field
- Certification as a chef or cook
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the culinary industry
- Experience teaching or instructing in a culinary setting
Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Passion for teaching and a commitment to student success
- Eligible to receive an ISBE Professional Education License (PEL) in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) (certificate must be in place prior to teaching) or
- Eligible to receive ISBE Educator License with Stipulations (ELS(CTE)) license in Early Childhood Education (license must be in place prior to teaching)
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum 2,000 - 6,000 hours (3 years full-time) industry experience, e.g. daycare, pre-school or pre-K program
- First-Aid Instructor Certification
- CPR Instructor Certification
- Prior teaching experience
- Excellent planning, organization, written and verbal communication skills
- High-level problem-solving skills
- Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
- Team and detail oriented
Additional Notes
Maintain and update industry certifications as required by Illinois State Board of Education and Prairie Hills ESD #144
