Assistant Principal

Duties

 

The Assistant Principal (K–8) supports a safe, positive, and academically focused learning environment through strong instructional leadership, effective operational management, and comprehensive student support. The role requires a minimum of five years of successful building-level leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to guide staff, support schoolwide systems, and uphold high expectations for teaching and learning.

The Assistant Principal serves as a key instructional leader, promoting sound instructional practices, supporting high-quality teaching, and ensuring alignment with district curriculum and assessment expectations. This includes observing instruction, providing actionable feedback, facilitating professional learning, and collaborating with teachers to strengthen Tier 1 instruction across all grade levels.

In addition, the Assistant Principal leads student discipline systems that are proactive, restorative, and aligned with district policy. The role ensures consistent implementation of behavior expectations, supports positive school climate initiatives, and partners with families to address student needs.

The Assistant Principal also oversees the MTSS process and supports Tier 1–3 academic and behavioral systems, ensuring data-driven decision-making and facilitating collaborative problem-solving teams to support PreK–8 students. This includes monitoring intervention effectiveness, guiding progress-monitoring practices, and ensuring equitable access to supports.

Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Principal or General Administrative Endorsement Required
  • Successful teaching experience, preferably in elementary or middle school
  • Knowledge of:
    • Student discipline and restorative practices
    • Instructional best practices and data-driven decision-making
    • MTSS implementation and progress monitoring
    • Staff evaluation processes and professional growth systems

     

Salary/Benefits

  • Salary: $73,000–$80,000, commensurate with experience
