Duties

Primary responsibility is the improvement of instruction by providing leadership and administration which will motivate instructional and support personnel to strive for superior performance so as to provide the best possible opportunities for student growth and development, both educationally and personally; Supervise the operation of each attendance center as determined by the Board of Education.

Maintain overall site operations; receive, distribute, and communicate information to enforce school, district, and state policies; maintain the safety of school environment; coordinate school activities; communicate information to staff; and address situations, problems and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school.

This position directly reports to the District Superintendent and functionally reports to the District Cabinet.

This list is not all-inclusive and is only intended to illustrate the various responsibilities and duties performed.

  1. Performs all duties and responsibilities as identified in the Illinois School Code.
  2. Hires, supervises, and trains employees within building; orients new personnel assigned to the school and District policies and procedures.
  3. Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
  4. Implements policies, procedures, and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements; develop and administer the general school routine and coordinate all activities within the school building.
  5. Advocates for the students, staff, school, district, and public education (e.g. responsive to parents and community, creates a welcoming climate and culture, markets school programs, promotes and emphasizes support for parental involvement) for the purpose of encouraging and promoting community involvement and outreach.
  6. Composes a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information; facilities communication (oral and written) between personnel, students, and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts in accordance with District policy.
  7. Delegates responsibility for a variety of administrative functions to other personnel for the purpose of managing the workload more efficiently.
  8. Directs curriculum and instruction on-site (e.g. enforces grade-level standards, provides opportunities for enrichment and intervention, encourages differentiated instruction for all students, creates and supports learning communities, sets high expectations, educational leader, continuous improvement mindset) for the purpose of increasing student achievement.
  9. Identifies intellectual, physical, social, and emotional needs affecting students’ success in school; takes steps to direct and coordinate the efforts of teachers and parents with staff services and special education personnel.
  10. Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive; evaluates assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved, compliance with job descriptions is obtained, and performance is maximized.
  11. Supervises school personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school curriculum.
  12. In compliance with Board Policy, as well as state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, addresses and resolves student behavioral problems violating the student code of conduct and Board Policy; maintains a standard of student behavior designed to command respect and minimizes school and classroom interruptions.
  13. Acts as Instructional Leader for the site and District (e.g. responsible for student achievement, focused conversations with teachers, daily classroom visits, shares and models effective teaching strategies, confronts classroom mediocrity, has high expectations, provides structure, strong disciplinarian, creates and maintains positive school climate (orderly), drive to move the school forward, and includes all staff in the team effort in promoting student achievement) for the purpose of providing support to site staff in order to increase student achievement.
  14. Manages school administrative functions (e.g. facility maintenance, budget, staffing, supervising extracurricular activities, monitor transportation services provided to students, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines.
  15. Implements safety and security protocols to ensure a safe school environment; recommends and implements procedures and best practices to prevent and deter violence at schools or other district properties; recommends additions and improvements to the safety management program, particularly in areas such as emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
  16. Models for all staff  (e.g. develops personal growth plans for self and all staff, ensures quality staff development at the school site, creates and supports learning communities, uses and models use of technology, models behaviors of a lifelong learner) for the purpose of creating an environment where staff and students are successful; observe, counsel, and motivate staff toward performances to attain the educational goals of the District.
  17. Presents information (e.g. budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas, school improvement plan, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
  18. Promotes the use of assessment data (e.g. monitors student progress, conducts and uses assessment data to guide instruction, uses academic support systems) for the purpose of increasing student achievement.
  19. Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to the school environment.
  20. Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  21. Chairs meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district, and/or state objectives.
  22. Maintains an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participant attitude on the part of all staff and students.
  23. Continually evaluates existing programs and practices, curriculum content, and pilot or experimental programs; makes recommendations to District Administration on any matter which will improve the excellence of the District; affects or recommends changes that will lead to improved administration, supervision, and opportunity for student development.
  24. Attends professional conferences, seminars, and workshops in education and/or educational administration as per master agreement and/or Superintendent.
  25. Attends work as scheduled and arrives in a timely manner.
  26. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Masters degree in Education required; Doctorate preferred. At least five years of experience in teaching required, school administration preferred. Administrative Endorsement required. Demonstrated experience in a culturally diverse educational setting. Any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that meets the minimum requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred; experience with second language learners.

  11. Routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; work with data of widely varied types and purposes;  operate data software utilizing a variety of standardized methods.
  12. Flexibility to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; In working with others, independently problem solving to analyze issues and create action plans.
  13. Specific abilities to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: assess learning outcomes; adapt curriculum and programs to meet the needs of students; provide an effective learning environment that encourages student based motivation; communicate with culturally diverse groups, students, staff, and parents; create and maintain a climate of respect; establish effective relationships; promote a positive learning environment for students that involves staff and parents to promote high student achievement; utilize current technology; work as a part of a team; work with detailed information/data from various sources; advocate for the site.
  14. Perform advanced math, read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions.
  15. Working knowledge of budgets and funding, pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws, and stages of child development.
  16. Promot child-centred environment; knowledgeable of age-appropriate activities, effective practices, and technology.
  17. Working knowledge of school system to include classroom experience.

Salary/Benefits

Salary: $90,000.00 - $125,000.00 commensurate with education & experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to attend and preside over classrooms and meetings. Ability to travel with students, faculty, and staff throughout District. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
