Duties

Provides specialized instruction in order to meet the unique educational needs of students with internalizing mental health concerns, disabilities, and/or other specialized needs, evaluates and assesses progress, in accordance with student’s IEP and/or individualized plan, in a variety of settings.  This teacher is a lead teacher for their own classroom and is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the assigned classroom program.  Must have an ability to modify assignments and curriculum based on the needs of the students.

Commitment to Trauma Responsive Education Environment:  Demonstrates competence and understanding and commitment to trauma-informed practices and trauma responsive education.  Remains dedicated to ensuring Bridge Academy is an inclusive, safe and calming environment for all.  Works to establish and maintain healthy communication and partnerships with students, colleagues, and families.

Educational Instruction:  Plans, coordinates, evaluates, and implements a comprehensive curriculum which meets the individualized academic, emotional, and social needs of each student enrolled in the classroom and which is directly related to grade-based ISBE standards and/or the student’s Individualized Educational Plan or 504 Plan.  Assesses students performance levels and recommends appropriate goals and objectives.  Teaches curriculum with intention and with specific regard for inquiry based and experiential learning when possible.

Social-Emotional Education:  Implements social skills training embedded in academic instruction, paired with tenets of SEL which meet ISBE standards but also help students flourish in interactions with others and navigate their own emotions and needs.

Interdisciplinary Team Structure: Works collaboratively with other teachers, case managers, clinicians and administrator to partner with students and their families to plan for academics and services for the student.  Attends meetings as assigned.  Initiates meetings when needs present.  Collaborates with regard to classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, or other instructional interventions that may be needed with regard to any student and the team.

Progress Reporting:  Collects, prepares and presents academic data and progress on each child in the classroom, as well as emotional or behavioral needs.  Maintains grades and data, and applies analysis, as required by standards to measure student progress.

Lesson Plans:  Develops and implements lesson plans that reflect best practices.

Professional Development:  Dedication to personal and professional growth through ongoing professional development including, but not limited to book studies, school or regional trainings, seminars, workshops, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

Documentation:  Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and school policy.

Motivation:  Strives to help students identify their internal strengths, interests and motivation while maintaining a classroom environment supportive of same.  Plans a program of study that motivates students and pushes them toward success, as individually defined.

Qualifications

ISBE Professional Educator License (PEL).  Preference will be given to an educator with LBS I endorsement and related experience, or a teacher endorsed in multiple content areas.  All candidates should possess experience working with students or youth with social-emotional needs.  Ability to build relationships with students and colleagues to work collaboratively for student success is priority.  Must be able to demonstrate competence in trauma-informed and trauma responsive practices.

Salary/Benefits

Salary for school year will be commensurate with experience, with start date occurring August 2024.
