Duties
The position works primarily with Kindergarten students in an inclusion setting with some resource classes.
Qualifications
Applicants should have the required special education license and/or endorsement for the position.
Salary/Benefits
Salary range is determined by years of experience and educational levels on the teacher contract's set salary schedule, which ranges from $56,143 to $77,643 for SY 2025/26 (prorated based on start date). Per the teachers' contract, newly hired special education teachers also receive a $3,000 hiring bonus.
90% of the single medical insurance (BlueCross/BlueShield PPO or HMO) and 100% of the single dental insurance premium costs are paid by the school district for full-time certified staff members. Additional board-paid contributions are made for those taking spouse, children, or family medical coverage.
Additional Notes
In addition to active teachers or those finishing teaching LBS1 degrees/licenses, retired teachers are eligible to be hired at Rhodes for this position under the Retirees Return To Work (RRTW) state law because of a shortage of special education teachers in the region; this program allows a retiree to continue to receive their full TRS pension while also earning their full salary and insurance benefits at Rhodes as a special education teacher.
