Duties

Work with EL students and special education teams within a supportive, structured, setting. Must have knowledge of EL required screening and assessment as well as instructional and resource programs for English Learners with a variety of special education eligibilities.

Components of Job Duties

  • Bilingual/EL Instructional Expertise: Demonstrates strong knowledge of English Language Development (ELD) for students with disabilities, including those with moderate to significant support needs, using WIDA standards and evidence-based strategies.
  • Special Education Collaboration: Collaborates effectively with special education teachers, related service providers, and support staff to co-plan and deliver integrated, accessible instruction aligned with IEP goals and language objectives.
  • Differentiated, Multimodal Instruction: Skilled in modifying lessons and materials to meet a wide range of language proficiency levels, cognitive abilities, and communication needs across early childhood through transition-age students.
  • Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Practice: Creates a supportive environment that respects and affirms students’ cultural and linguistic identities while addressing their individualized learning profiles.
  • Data-Informed Decision-Making: Uses language proficiency data, IEP progress monitoring, and classroom assessments to inform instruction, support language acquisition, and measure growth.
  • Legal and Procedural Knowledge: Maintains compliance with IDEA and EL program requirements, including participation in IEP meetings, documentation of language services, and coordination of ACCESS testing and accommodations.

Qualifications

Hold a registered, valid Illinois LBS I / Professional Educators License & Endorsement / approval in EL

A.E.R.O. Therapeutic Center 

A.E.R.O is a Special Education Cooperative comprised of 11-member school districts, located in Burbank, IL, approximately 15 miles from the heart of Chicago. We aim to provide comprehensive special education programs and related services to students Pre K- age 22 with disabilities, who are residents of our member districts.

Our new therapeutic center offers a collaborative environment for Special Education Teachers to work with IEP teams and fellow SPED Teachers in the same grade band and program. AERO supports teachers to engage in whole classroom activities, 1:1 sessions, and small group activities in the classroom and around the school building. The center's design includes breakout spaces for more personalized learning. Teachers are provided computers and technology for teaching and report/documentation completion. AERO also provides assessment tools, curriculum materials, other subscriptions, communication supports, and related service supports from case load social workers, speech/language pathologists, OT/PT, nurses, and BCBAs or Behavior Intervention Specialists.
