Duties

  • Provide guidance and counseling services to students individually, in small groups, and through whole-class lessons.
  • Provide consultative service to parents as necessary.
  • Develop relationships with and make referrals to outside agencies/providers where student issues are outside the scope of school service parameters.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other staff regarding individual students' needs and programming issues.
  • Assist students and parents with the registration process and monitor ongoing student progress towards promotion/graduation.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with parents, students, and staff using oral, written, and emerging technologies.
  • Actively participate in various building and district teams and committees. Provide feedback and act as liaison to other building staff to facilitate the creation of a cohesive PK-12 social-emotional program.
  • Establish a safe, confidential atmosphere conducive to positive growth. Model and encourage appropriate behaviors that lead to positive social-emotional growth and development.
  • Enforce, support, and communicate school policies, philosophies, and objectives with students and parents. Work collaboratively with administration and colleagues to advocate for North Boone's students and programs.
  • Participate in and facilitate staff development and school improvement activities to maintain professional growth. Incorporate best practices or new strategies.
  • Participate in events outside the regularly scheduled work day, such as orientation, open houses, or conferences.
  • Abide by the Teacher Expectations and Responsibilities outlined in the North Boone CUSD Teacher Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
  • Maintain student records and periodically review student cumulative records for completeness, accuracy, and relevance to the Illinois Student Records Act.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling or related field.
  • Illinois school service certificate appropriate for a School Counselor.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal relationship development skills.
  • Recent work and/or experience with modern research-based counseling methods.
  • Exceptional technology skills, database experience, and the ability to design and use spreadsheets for various purposes.
  • Demonstrated collaborative abilities in consultative student management and educational program development.
