Duties

1. Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing, classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
2. Develop clearly understood procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters.
3. Establish procedures that create and maintain attractive, organized, functional, healthy, clean, and safe facilities, with proper attention to the visual, acoustic and temperature.
4. Establish and maintain an effective inventory system for all school supplies materials, and equipment.
5. Communicate with the Board of Education regularly about the needs, successes and the general operation of the school.
6. Establish procedures for safe storing and integrity of all public and confidential school records.
7. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as a part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
8. Attend required committee meetings and extra school sponsored functions.

9. Schedules and directs staff meetings.
10. Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the student in school.
11. Establish schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non-classroom areas (including before and after school).
12. Set the academic tone and actively work with teachers to develop and maintain high curriculum standards, develop mission statements and set performance goals and objectives.
13. Understand the curriculum and various delivery strategies.
14. Assesses the instructional program and recommends change when appropriate.
15. Communicates a clear vision of what the school should be for students.
16. Shares supervision of athletic events in the district.
18. Works with all staff to provide supervision at all events.
19. Coordinates a School Improvement plan for building growth.
20. Communicates and administers District policies, legal procedures, and state laws; including maintenance of an up-to-date Student-Parent Handbook.
21. Evaluate and help improve the skills of teachers and other staff.
22. Exhibits a positive attitude and maintains integrity even in difficult situations.
23. Provides a safe environment for students and staff as per the Risk Management Plan.
24. Performs any other duties as assigned by the superintendent.

Qualifications

1. Minimum of an MS in school administration with a valid Illinois Teaching Certificate with the General Administrative Endorsements. Teacher evaluator certified.
2. Two (2) through four (4) years previous experience in an educational setting, preferably in a teaching role. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, etc.
3. Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
4. Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
5. Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
6. Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.

Salary/Benefits

  • The Principal's work year shall include all teacher attendance days.
  • 12 month contract beginning July 1 and ending June 30. 
  • 22 working days of vacation annually, exclusive of legal holidays, and approved by the Superintendent.
  • Salary range $70,000 to $90,000 depending on experience.
  • Board paid TRS, Single Health insurance.
  • 13 paid sick days and 2 Personal Days.
  • Board paid membership dues for 2 professional organizations.
