Duties

  1. Communicate with the Superintendent and Board of Education regularly about the needs, successes, and general operation of the school.
  2. Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth/development.
  3. Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required for building-level administration.
  4. Observe the professionalism and time on task of all employees in the school building.
  5. Work with office staff on issues that arise, such as scheduling, staff coverage during absences, etc.
  6. Maintain active relationships with students and parents, including the planning of family engagement activities.
  7. Respond to parent/community complaints in a timely fashion.
  8. Develop clearly understood safety procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  9. Work with the maintenance director to establish procedures that create and maintain attractive, organized, functional, healthy, clean, and safe facilities, with proper attention to visual, acoustic, and temperature-related factors.
  10. Establish guidelines to maintain high standards for student conduct and oversee student discipline, including enforcing the student handbook and assigning consequences.
  11. Establish schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non-classroom areas (including before/after school and lunch/recess time).
  12. Evaluate and coach teachers on their performance in compliance with PERA.
  13. Supervise and evaluate the kitchen, custodial, and paraprofessional staff to ensure standards are being maintained and students have a clean, safe environment in which to attend school.
  14. Serve as LEA representative for IEP meetings and lead/administer the 504 process.
  15. Oversee and facilitate state testing per ISBE guidelines.
  16. Conduct staff meetings to keep staff members informed of policy changes, new programs, etc.
  17. Monitor completion of all mandated training of staff members.
  18. Supervise and evaluate the schools’ extracurricular programs (excluding athletic programs).
  19. Attend required committee meetings, special events for student achievement, school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
  20. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

 

The building Principal will work closely with the Superintendent to accomplish the following duties/responsibilities:

 

  1. Establish and maintain an effective and positive learning climate.
  2. Responsible for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students.
  3. Develop and implement school policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal laws and district policies, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for young learners.
  4. Manage the school’s budget, resources, and facilities effectively, ensuring a conducive learning environment for students.
  5. Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans and initiatives aligned with the school district’s vision and goals, prioritizing foundational learning and well-being.
  6. Assist in the planning of in-service and school improvement activities.
  7. Set the academic tone and actively work with teachers to develop and maintain high curriculum standards, develop mission statements, and set performance goals and objectives.
  8. Hire, train, assign, and help improve the skills of teachers and other staff.
  9. Cooperates with college and university officials regarding student teaching and Americorps programs.
  10. Engage with parents, community members, and other stakeholders to build partnerships and garner support for the school.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of M.S. in school administration with a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Principal Administrative Endorsement.
  • 4+ years of previous experience in an educational setting, preferably in a teaching role.
  • Prior experience as a building principal, assistant principal, program coordinator, or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace for Education, including word processing, spreadsheets, slides, etc.
  • Ability to understand and follow to completion oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  • Ability to communicate with students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of best practices and instructional strategies.
  • Experience with collaborative groups, processes, and data-driven systems in a student-centered environment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in student achievement.
