2024-2025 Special Education Teacher at Meadowbrook Elementary School

Salary: Commensurate with experience
Benefits Eligibility: Eligible for full-time benefits for certified personnel
Work Year: 8/19/2024 - 6/3/2025
Days Off: 10 holidays plus winter break (10 days) and spring break (5 days)
Schedule: 7:45am - 3:45pm

Qualifications & Licensure
Illinois Professional Educator License with LBS1 K-12 or K-5 endorsement required

Reports to:
Assistant Director of Student Services

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of best practice in the area of special education service delivery
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with students across a range of disabilities (i.e. Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Multiple Disabilities, etc.)
  • Set up and maintain a safe and structured learning environment in a self-contained setting
  • Advocate and plan for purposeful access to general education among students
  • Demonstrate the ability to problem solve in the moment in the best interest of students
  • Provide individualized instruction that aligns with students' identified goals and objectives as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) on a daily basis
  • Demonstrate the use of instructional strategies such as positive behavior interventions and supports, prompting hierarchies, visual supports, and sensory integration
  • Address embedded skills for all students including areas of communication, functional academics, sensory-motor, and social emotional skills
  • Assist students in development of adaptive/daily living skills, including toileting, hygiene and eating/feeding as needed
  • Take a lead role in the educational team (i.e. assistants, related service staff, etc.)
  • Coordinate and maintain individual student and assistant schedules across multiple grade levels
  • Provide written feedback to parents and teams related to a student's progress toward their identified goals and objectives
  • Monitor student progress through the use of formal and informal assessments
  • Use a high degree of modeling, reinforcement, and visual supports to optimize learning and student engagement
  • Co-plan and co-teach with related service staff to address student goals and objectives
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience with the Common Core Essential Elements and DLM assessment


Terms of Employment:
10 Month Position; salary and benefits as determined annually by the D28 Board of Education
