Duties

The tasks listed below are representative of the essential performance responsibilities the Elementary Assistant Principal is expected to perform to a proficient level.

  1. Engages in positive and effective communication with parents, students and others in the District community. 
  2. Provides leadership in creating a climate conducive to learning.
  3. Participates in the selection, supervision and evaluation of certified and classified staff as assigned.
  4. Supports and plans professional growth activities. Is knowledgeable of and shares the latest research impacting teaching and learning.
  5. Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating the school improvement plan and Key District Performance Indicators.  
  6. Supervises staff to insure that expectations are met and maintains a high level of building morale and pride. 
  7. 7. Follows and implements all laws, procedures and policies. 
  8. Promotes appropriate and professional public relation activities through the PTO, parents, community and media resources.
  9. Provides leadership and support in meetings and inservice activities that is responsive to the needs of teachers.
  10. Effective utilizes participatory decision-making strategies. 
  11. Utilizes, proven, research based strategies to improve student performance. 
  12. Interprets and utilizes available data to drive instruction activities. 
  13. Leads the school wide implementation/management of the discipline and attendance initiatives and processes. 
  14. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Building Principal.

Qualifications

  1. A valid Illinois PEL with General Administrative or Principal endorsement. 
  2. At least a Master’s Degree with a major in Education preferred. 
  3. Special Education knowledge and experience preferred
  4. Evidence of instructional leadership with a strong commitment to academic excellence with high expectations of students and staff. 
  5. Elementary teaching experience preferred.
  6. Bilingual preferred
  7. Knowledge of K-8 school curriculum and concepts. 
  8. Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision including the Danielson Framework. 
  9. Possess the Qualified-Evaluator for teachers designation or the ability to obtain the designation.
  10. Ability to develop and contribute to an effective management team. 
  11. Ability to work well in a professional community with high expectations for its students and schools. 
  12. Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. 
  13. Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to assist in establishing a positive work environment.
  14. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education. 
  15. Exhibit professionalism in appearance and demeanor. 
  16. Meet all the requirements established by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Certification Board.
  17. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and necessary.

Salary/Benefits

Salary: $87,757-$93,891 + Board Paid TRS
