Full Year Maternity Leave Mathematics

Duties

  • Support 4th and 5th-grade accelerated math through a co-teaching model with classroom teachers
  • Co-plan and co-teach math lessons that provide appropriate challenge, pacing, depth, and enrichment for students in accelerated math
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support differentiation within core math instruction
  • Provide small-group math intervention for students needing additional support in foundational skills, problem-solving, fluency, and grade-level standards
  • Provide enrichment and extension opportunities for students demonstrating readiness for advanced mathematical thinking
  • Use student data, including MAP, classroom assessments, common assessments, chapter tests, formative assessments, and teacher input, to identify student needs
  • Track and analyze student progress to determine appropriate instructional next steps
  • Progress monitor students receiving math intervention or acceleration support
  • Maintain organized data records related to student growth, intervention participation, and instructional recommendations
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to make data-informed decisions about math supports, flexible grouping, and acceleration opportunities
  • Support teachers with instructional strategies, lesson planning, differentiation, math routines, and intervention resources
  • Model effective math instruction and provide coaching or feedback when appropriate
  • Assist with the development and refinement of math systems, supports, and structures across grades K–5
  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding math programming, student progress, areas of strength, and areas for continued growth
  • Help families better understand math pathways, acceleration, intervention, and student support plans
  • Participate in grade-level, building-level, and district-level meetings related to math instruction, intervention, MTSS, and student progress
  • Support alignment of math instruction and intervention to district goals, grade-level standards, and student learning needs
  • Collaborate with special education, EL, intervention, and classroom teams to ensure students have access to appropriate math supports
  • Assist with identifying trends in math achievement and growth data across classrooms and grade levels
  • Support a culture of mathematical confidence, perseverance, problem solving, and growth mindset for students and staff

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License
  • Math endorsement, math specialist experience, or demonstrated expertise in elementary mathematics preferred
  • Experience teaching mathematics at the elementary level
  • Knowledge of standards-based math instruction, intervention, enrichment, and acceleration practices
  • Strong understanding of math progressions, especially in grades 3–5
  • Experience using student data to guide instruction, intervention, and flexible grouping
  • Ability to co-plan, co-teach, model lessons, and collaborate with classroom teachers
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, administrators, and families
  • Experience with progress monitoring tools, MAP data, common assessments, and classroom-based data preferred
  • Ability to support a positive, inclusive, and growth-minded learning environment

Salary/Benefits

Terms of Employment

This position is a K–5 elementary math specialist position for the school year. Salary and benefits will be determined in accordance with the negotiated agreement and district procedures.
