Duties

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  1. Improve students’ knowledge of elementary grade practices.

  2. Teach and facilitate the skills and knowledge necessary for students to function as responsible citizens and for career readiness.

  3. Cultivate positive and collaborative relationships with students, staff, parents and the community.

  4. Maintain student conduct and discipline.

  5. Enhance student learning and morale.

  6. Ensure student welfare.

  7. Create projects that incorporate critical thinking skills.

  8. Utilize various curriculum resources.

  9. Creating lesson plans.

  10. Increase student knowledge and understanding of daily learning objectives by integrating competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans. 

  11. Read and stay abreast of current topics in education.

  12. Develop professional relationships with the community and the utilization of local and regional resources.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, masters preferred for dual credit needs locally.

  2. A Valid Illinois Professional Educator License in Secondary, all sciences preferred but specifically biologial.

  3. Strong Communication Skills (oral/written) are required.

  4. Strong interpersonal skills are required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and members of the community.

  5. Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of the subject areas.

  6. Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching and Charlotte Danielson Frameworks for Teaching.

  7. Knowledge of the New Illinois Learning Standards.

  8. Coaching Opportunities are available.

Salary/Benefits

TEACHER SALARY:

Actual pay depends on years of experience and degree hours completed.  The range for this position is $41,400-$59,380. Please see the 2025-2026 Pay Scale for further information.

 

BENEFITS:

 

  • Health Insurance - district pays for portion – Board Benefit $5,520.00 for 2024-2025.
  • District Life Insurance - district pays cost for $10,000
  • TRS - Teachers pay 9.0% plus 0.9% for THIS
  • District pays NEC of .58% and THIS of .97%
  • 2 Personal Leave days that can accumulate to 3 - after that any days are added to sick leave
  • 11 sick leave days per year for each year they are employed in the District
  • Unused Sick Leave days are reported to TRS for credit when they retire
  • Sick leave accumulates to 340 days – When you retire, you may receive a maximum of two years (340 days) of service credit for unused, uncompensated sick leave
  •  2 Bereavement days are granted per occurrence for immediate family

Additional Notes

EVALUATION:

Teachers will be evaluated according to the Palestine CUSD #3 Teacher Evaluation Plan based on Charlotte Danielson’s Frameworks for Teaching, Board Policy and the Joint Agreement with the Palestine Education Association.
