Duties

Position to support students with special needs and general education students. Positions could include a Transition Program Support, Life Skills Program Support, a General Resource Support, and/or general supervision, such as the female locker room. Paraprofessionals could be asked to attend general education classrooms, pull-out settings, self-contained special needs classrooms, and other areas as assigned. Essential duties: Provides assistance to teachers with clerical duties such as filing, mail handling, copying and computer input. 2. Provides assistance in supervising students during lunch and passing periods. 3. Attend scheduled teacher assistant meetings scheduled by Special Education Director. 4. Guides and directs students in the performance of academic tasks such as assisting with daily assignments or via online teacher-assisted instruction. 5. Works collaboratively with teacher and support staff to ensure progress toward academic and social and emotional needs are achieved. 6. Works with small groups of students to reinforce material introduced by the teacher, under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher. 7. Serves as a resource to the student personnel evaluation team as required. Ability to earn CPI (Crisis Prevention) training within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

1. Possession of or ability to obtain Illinois Professional Educator License with Stipulations—Paraprofessional, or other ISBE educator license that requires a college degree. 2. Knowledge of Special Education high school students’ needs and behavior issues. 3. Strong subject knowledge in core academic area or areas of assignment, or wilingness to learn. 4. Experience with special needs student population preferred. 5. Strong behavior management skills. 6. Ability to move about frequently in the classroom and in various other parts of the school; ability to stand stretch, lift and bend as required to assist students. 7. Ability to keyboard and use various types of software applications and assistive technology. 8. Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and distinctly with staff and students. 9. Ability to conduct oneself in a professional and confidential manner.

Salary/Benefits

Not less than $15.69 per hour, 10 sick days.

Coaching opportunities are available but not limited to the following: Assistant Baseball Coach and Assistant Girls Track Coach.
