Duties
Position Overview: The Boards of Education in Rochelle are seeking a Director of Teaching and Learning to help achieve its vision of "Preparing Students for their Tomorrow" by providing leadership and oversight in the implementation of the Board of Education's goals, policy and strategic initiatives.
Dual District Organization: The Director of Teaching and Learning will report to the Superintendent as part of the Rochelle School's dual district leadership structure. The position will be employed by both Rochelle Township High School District 212 and Rochelle Community Consolidated District 231 as part of the District's efforts to implement a shared service educational leadership model.
Key Leadership Responsibilities
- Curriculum & Instructional Leadership: Lead the alignment of District curriculum, instruction and assessments to ISBE learning standards; chair curriculum committees to review and recommend new courses and curricula; coordinate the selection and piloting of textbooks and materials; evaluate courses and instructional programs.
- Professional Development & Mentorship: Coordinate professional development activities for instructional personnel; lead the planning of new teacher orientations and support building administrators in mentoring new educators.
- Compliance & Grant Administration: Ensure state mandates are integrated into District curriculum and work with building Principals for statutory compliance; collaborate with Administrators on writing, submitting and executing local, state and federal grants.
- Resource & Budget Management: Coordinate and develop the curriculum and instruction budget; establish procedures for the purchase and distribution of books, software, equipment and instructional resources.
- Community & Stakeholder Engagement: Plan and present meetings with key stakeholder groups to communicate district programming and performance; define educational needs and formulate policy recommendations for the Board of Education; represent the District with external school systems and professional conferences.
- Additional Duties: Organize grade level and departmental meetings for horizontal and vertical articulation; maintain a curriculum library and keep staff informed of current educational research; assume other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
Salary/Benefits
A regionally competitive compensation package with a minimum salary of $90,000, commensurate with education and comparable experience. Benefits include sick leave, vacation days, personal days, health insurance, dental/vision insurance, life insurance, TRS/THIS contributions, professional membership dues and travel expense reimbursements. It is anticipated that the total compensation package will be based on successful experience and expertise. It is expected that the initial contract will be for a multi-year period, as authorized by Illinois statutes.
