Duties

The Intermediate Self-Contained Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities within a self-contained classroom setting at Anne M. Jeans Elementary School. The teacher develops and implements individualized instructional programs aligned to students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), district curriculum, and Illinois Learning Standards.

The Intermediate Self-Contained Special Education Teacher creates a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic growth, communication, independence, social-emotional development, and positive behavioral outcomes. The teacher collaborates closely with general education staff, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families to ensure students receive comprehensive support and access to meaningful educational opportunities.

Qualifications

  • State of Illinois fingerprinting and background check in compliance with state code and district policy requirements. A fingerprint-based criminal history records check and a check of the Statewide Sex Offender Database and Violent Offender Against Youth Database (when available) will be performed on the successful candidate as required by State law. Each newly hired employee must complete an Immigration and Naturalization Service Form as required by federal law.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience working with students with diverse academic, behavioral, communication, and social-emotional needs preferred.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development and implementation, behavior intervention practices, and inclusive instructional strategies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

Salary/Benefits

Salary and benefits will be in accordance with the CCSD 180 collective bargaining agreement.

  5. Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Director of Student Services.
