Transitional Teacher/Vocational Job Coordinator

Duties

The Transitional Teacher and Vocational Coordinator is responsible for providing direct instructional services as a primary responsibility, while also developing, coordinating, and supporting work-based learning opportunities for high school students. The position provides transition-focused academic and employability instruction aligned with student IEP goals, while helping students explore careers, build workplace readiness skills, and participate in internships, job placements, and other vocational experiences. The Coordinator collaborates with students, teachers, administrators, families, local businesses, and community agencies to create meaningful transitional experiences that support post-secondary employment, education, and independent living outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
    • LBS I endorsement
    • LBS II Transition Coordinator endorsement or Teacher Coordinator approval
  • Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience, preferably in secondary special education, transition programming, or students with behavioral/social-emotional needs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and behavioral intervention strategies
