Healthcare Worker (RN or LPN) APPLY ONLINE Share: Print: Duties Assists school health committees, teachers, and administrators in developing school health program. Participates in work of health curriculum committees. Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight and hearing testing.Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs. Instructs teachers on screening students for health defects. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters. Visits student homes when necessary. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures. Makes recommendations on health needs of individual students. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with immunization records, infectious and contagious diseases. Participates in inservice training programs and the instruction of special classes in good health practices--care of teeth, hygiene, etc. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools. Shall be on call for emergencies at any time during the school day other than regularly scheduled hours and shall advise the administration of any necessary changes to the approved schedule. Shall make the decision regarding whether a child should be taken home, taken to the family doctor, or to the hospital for emergency treatment. She shall follow instructions on the Family Card in relation to the above emergencies. Assist with securing health information on students referred for testing and possible placement in special classes. She should attend staffings on these students, when necessary. Assumes risk care management duties (1) to ensure that statutory and common law health and safety rights are extended to all visitors, employees, and students, (2) to make certain that the district’s building and grounds are maintained in a safe condition, and (3) to provide careful supervision and protection of all the district’s real and personal property. Other duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent. Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): A high degree of proficiency in health care and patient welfare, and a basic knowledge of office procedures in an educational setting. Previous experience as a school nurse or other alternatives as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
