Associate Principal of Student Services

Duties

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Associate Principal of Student Services provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of special education, counseling, student services, and student discipline at Barrington High School. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality programming, compliance, and support systems that promote student achievement, positive behavior, attendance, social-emotional well-being, and post-secondary readiness.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of special education laws, regulations, procedures, and best practices
  • Knowledge of Section 504 requirements and student support systems
  • Strong understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), behavioral supports, attendance interventions, and student services programming
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to build capacity, foster collaboration, and support continuous improvement
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to analyze data and utilize information to improve student outcomes and program effectiveness
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Current certification in teacher and principal evaluation systems preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Services Leadership & Program Oversight:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for special education, Section 504, MTSS, case management, attendance, behavioral supports, and related student services programs.
  • Ensure all student services programs are implemented with fidelity and comply with federal, state, and district requirements.
  • Coordinate and monitor special education programming, staffing, and service delivery to ensure student needs are met.
  • Lead the evaluation, placement, and service planning processes for students receiving special education services.
  • Oversee student screening processes and support systems designed to identify and address student needs.
  • Support transition planning and services for students preparing for post-secondary opportunities.
  • Coordinate homebound and hospital instruction services as appropriate.

Compliance & Student Support:

  • Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, Illinois State Board of Education requirements, and district procedures.
  • Monitor the implementation and quality of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, and related services.
  • Attend or delegate participation in IEP and student support meetings as appropriate.
  • Support teams in addressing complex student academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional concerns.
  • Collaborate with staff and families to resolve concerns and ensure appropriate supports for students.

Leadership, Supervision & Professional Growth:

  • Supervise, support, and evaluate certified and non-certified student services staff.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and professional growth opportunities to staff members.
  • Promote collaboration among special education, counseling, psychology, social work, and instructional teams.
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retaining highly qualified staff.

School Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Serve as a member of the Barrington High School leadership team.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Principal for Instruction and Future Readiness to support master scheduling, student placement, and program development.
  • Partner with district and building administrators to ensure alignment of student services practices and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and support during building crisis response and threat assessment processes.
  • Support students assigned to alternative placements, ombudsman programs, and other specialized services.
  • Assist with supervision of school activities, events, and operations as assigned.
  • Serve on district and building committees as assigned.

Budget & Resource Management:

  • Develop, monitor, and administer budgets related to student services programming.
  • Allocate personnel and resources to support effective and efficient service delivery.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and utilize data to inform staffing, resource allocation, and continuous improvement efforts.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and District Student Services Administrators.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Special Education, School Administration, or a related field
  • Professional Educator License with Principal Endorsement or equivalent General Administrative Endorsement required
  • Professional Educator License with Special Education, School Counseling, School Psychology, School Social Work, Speech-Language Pathology, or another related student services endorsement required

Experience:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in special education, student services, or related educational leadership roles preferred
  • Experience supervising certified and non-certified staff preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading special education programming, compliance, and student support services

Salary/Benefits

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: (Completed by Office of Human Resources)

Days

260 days (12-month position)

Salary Placement Range

$145,000 - $155,000
Starting placement within the range is based on qualifications and experience.
