Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Must have the ability to work independently and be self-motivated and self-directed in absence of supervision.
- Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
- Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Must be able to use technology to communicate effectively and appropriately, as well as exhibit patience and understanding with students, staff and the general public.
- Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies (e.g. paper towels, soap, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring adequate quantities for daily use.
- Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Secures facilities and grounds (e.g. doors, gates, alarms, lights, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.
- Set up and break down for school/district functions.
- Understand and implement safety procedures as required by the district.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach about the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs onto ladders. Must be able to perform difficult physical labor in variable weather conditions such as hot, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The Custodian(s) is responsible for the overall maintenance and cleanliness of Pennoyer School and its grounds. Safety, cleanliness and continued efficiency of operation shall be a major goal at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a High School Diploma
REPORTS TO: The Director of Facilities
HOURS: 40 hours per week as assigned, may include weekends and evenings.
