School Nurse

Duties

  • Provide direct nursing care to students and staff, including first aid, illness assessment, and emergency response.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, district procedures, and state law.
  • Manage student attendance, including tracking absences.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization and physical examination compliance.
  • Monitor and manage chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies, and other medical needs.
  • Develop and implement Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs) and emergency action plans as needed.
  • Conduct health screenings including vision, hearing, and other state-required screenings.
  • Communicate in a confidential and professional manner with parents/guardians regarding student illnesses, injuries, medications, and health concerns.
  • Collaborate with the nurses in the district, teachers, administrators, counselors, special education staff, and outside medical providers to support student health and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal health regulations, including communicable disease reporting and exclusion guidelines.
  • Maintain inventory and proper storage of medications and medical supplies.
  • Provide health education and promote wellness initiatives within the school community.
  • Assist with accident reports, incident documentation, and required health reporting.
  • Maintain current certifications (CPR, hearing and vision) and nursing licensure requirements.
  • Obtain Vision and Hearing Screening certification if not currently certified.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Illinois Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Preference given to candidates with RN, RN PEL-CSN, or BSN credentials.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Vision and Hearing screening certification preferred
  • Previous pediatric, school nursing, public health, or related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of student health regulations, medication administration, and emergency procedures.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

Salary/Benefits

  • Salary: $39/hr to $54/hr (Subject to current union negotiation)
  • Benefits: Pursuant to the IFT CollectiveBargaining Agreement (Subject to current union negotiation) with IMRF eligibility.
