Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services- Anticipated

Duties

JOB SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services is responsible for the administration of the budget, fiscal planning, purchasing, warehousing, transportation, accounting, insurance program, food services, building maintenance and operations, Management Information Systems, district printing services and the building program of the District.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 

  • Assume responsibility for budget development, control, and long-range financial planning.
  • Supports understanding of the district strategic plan, related strategies, and action plans in connection to initiatives taking place in the District and/or schools.
  • Develop and administer a program for purchasing contract service, supplies and equipment.
  • Develop a long range facility maintenance program and supervise plant construction.
  • Administer, through the Director of Nutrition Services, the cafeteria services and the school meals program and the departments associated employees.
  • Administer, through the Director of Transportation, the district's transportation services and the departments associated employees.
  • Administer, through the Director of  Facility Operations, the management of facilities and grounds and the departments associated employees.
  • Establish and supervise a program of accounting and reporting for the financial affairs of the District.
  • Manage the District's insurance and investment programs.
  • Play a key role in all aspects of the collective bargaining process for all employee work groups.
  • Supervise the development of required financial reports as required for all funds.
  • Consult with the Superintendent and the Senior Leadership Team on questions relating to the District's business affairs, including associated collective bargaining requirements.
  • Prepare and submit to the Board of Education, reports and other documents as required.
  • Actively serves in a consultative and leadership role in the Superintendent's cabinet.
  • Perform other job related duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Master's degree, from an accredited university in education, business management, or accounting.

EXPERIENCE  

  • Minimum of five years of successful experience as a school business official in K-12 organization(s).
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated recognition of the importance of staff involvement in the budget development process.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  • An administrative leadership style based on effective human relations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Enthusiasm for effective team leadership to motivate high standards and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in school business functions.

LICENSES/CREDENTIAL: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with Administrative Endorsement in the area of Chief School Business Official 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary is based upon market comparisons as determined by the Superintendent.  Twelve month work year. FLSA Exempt.

Salary/Benefits

SALARY RANGE: $189,400-$216,500

Additional Notes

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Work requires very infrequent lifting, pulling or pushing during the normal performance of tasks and responsibilities.  The work does require frequent walking and standing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in the school/ district environment where unusual temperature, noise, and hazards are relatively nonexistent. Work requires the employee to perform the following critical physical demands of the job in the school or district office setting as applicable:

  • Ability to regularly talk, see, and hear.
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, walk, stand, sit, and use your hands for fine manipulation during the normal performance of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Ability to travel from building to building as needed. Must have valid Illinois Drivers License and ability to travel throughout the District.
