Director of Athletics

Duties

Key Responsibilities 

  1. Program Leadership & Administration
  • Provide fair, consistent, and mission-aligned leadership across all athletic programs 
  • Oversee the organization, administration, and evaluation of all athletic programs 
  • Establish and enforce policies aligned with school values, IHSA regulations, and conference expectations 
  • Conduct annual program evaluations and communicate needs to school leadership 
  • Promote a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, character development, and excellence 

 

  1. Student Experience & Safety
  • Foster a positive, inclusive environment free of hazing, bullying, and harassment 
  • Support student-athlete development in leadership, teamwork, and personal responsibility 
  • Share responsibility for student health, safety, and well-being 
  • Assist in student discipline matters fairly and consistently 

 

  1. Coaching Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate all head and assistant coaches 
  • Conduct pre-season and post-season coaches meetings 
  • Provide professional development opportunities and support coaching excellence 
  • Promote accountability, communication, and alignment with school values 

 

  1. Operations, Scheduling & Event Management
  • Oversee all scheduling for practices, games, and tournaments 
  • Coordinate transportation for all teams and activities 
  • Assign and manage officials, game personnel, and event logistics 
  • Supervise athletic events and ensure proper conduct and organization 
  • Plan and execute major events including tournaments, senior nights, banquets, and awards programs 

 

  1. Facilities, Equipment & Resources
  • Oversee maintenance, safety, and improvement of all athletic facilities and fields 
  • Conduct annual inventory of athletic equipment and uniforms 
  • Recommend facility upgrades and long-term capital improvements 
  • Ensure safe, well-managed athletic environments for all participants 

 

  1. Compliance & External Relations
  • Serve as the school’s official representative to the IHSA and the Chicagoland Christian Conference  
  • Ensure compliance with all IHSA rules, eligibility requirements, and reporting 
  • Manage transfers, eligibility documentation, and required records 
  • Represent Bishop McNamara with professionalism in the broader athletic community 

 

  1. Enrollment, Outreach & Community Engagement
  • Partner with Admissions and Marketing to support enrollment and student recruitment 
  • Assist Marketing with the development of media guide, webpage, and app updates 
  • Promote athletics as a key component of the school’s identity and student experience 
  • Engage feeder schools, alumni, families, and community partners 
  • Attend and collaborate with the Athletic Booster Club 
  • Serve as a visible ambassador at games, events, and community functions 

 

  1. Administrative & Additional Duties
  • Maintain accurate financial, scheduling, and compliance records 
  • Assist with summer supervision and school operations as needed 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or President 

Qualifications

Qualifications 

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Administration, or related field 
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or ability to obtain 
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in athletic administration, coaching, or education 
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education 

Preferred 

  • Master’s degree in Education or Administration 
  • Administrative certification (Type 75 or Principal Endorsement) 
  • Experience working with IHSA and competitive athletic conferences 
  • Demonstrated success in program development, operations, or enrollment initiatives

Salary/Benefits

Terms of Employment 

  • Full-time, 12-month position 
  • Salary range: $75,000 – $85,000, based on experience (additional compensation may be available)

Position Summary 

Bishop McNamara Catholic School seeks an Athletic Director to lead, strengthen, and grow its successful athletic program. This key leadership role is responsible for fostering a faith-centered, competitive, and inclusive athletic culture that supports student development, school pride, and community engagement. 

The Athletic Director will provide equitable, unbiased leadership across all sports, ensure alignment with the mission of Catholic education, and oversee all aspects of athletic operations, compliance, and program growth. The successful candidate will be both a program builder and culture leader, capable of elevating the student-athlete experience while supporting enrollment, visibility, and long-term program sustainability.
