Duties
The School Nurse will provide direct nursing care and health services to students throughout the school day, including administering prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies, assessing and monitoring student health concerns, obtaining vital signs, and providing care for both acute and chronic health conditions. The nurse will support students with specialized healthcare needs, including diabetes management and care for students with complex medical conditions such as tube feedings. Additional responsibilities include responding to student illness or injury, maintaining accurate health documentation, communicating effectively with families, healthcare providers, and school personnel, and providing nursing support during school activities, field trips, and in other district buildings as needed.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must possess a current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Previous experience in pediatrics is preferred but not required. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities, along with the capacity to effectively prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff and families is essential.
Salary/Benefits
$30.00 to $37.00 per hour based on licensure and experience
