Duties
Position Summary
The Dean of Students & Athletic/Activities Director provides the vision and leadership necessary to manage the school's behavioral climate and its full suite of interscholastic, intramural, and extracurricular programs. This role is responsible for fostering an environment of academic excellence, social-emotional growth, and sportsmanship. The DS/AD ensures all activities are conducted with high ethical standards and in strict compliance with District, IESA, and ISBE policies.
Performance Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Communication
Policy & Compliance: Administer all programs within the confines of District policy, Board regulations, and state association guidelines (IESA/IVC Conference).
Community Liaison: Act as the primary liaison among the school, parents, and the community; represent the district at regional and conference meetings, as well as Booster Club meetings.
Conflict Resolution: Serve as the secondary point of contact for parent concerns and resolve internal departmental or team conflicts.
Engagement: Conduct regular, proactive meetings for coaches, parents, and athletes to communicate expectations, schedules, and safety protocols.
2. Athletic & Event Management
Master Scheduling: Organize and schedule all games, practices, and academic events; coordinate with opposing schools during inclement weather to manage cancellations or rescheduling.
Game Day Operations: Hire and supervise officials; arrange for scorekeepers, timekeepers, and volunteers for all home events.
Logistics: Arrange and confirm transportation for all away events, and manage visiting teams' needs.
Financial Stewardship: Understanding of the athletic budget; oversee admissions and fundraising while ensuring the proper, ethical handling of all funds.
3. Student Advocacy, Eligibility & Safety
Social-Emotional Support: Demonstrate an understanding of student development; advocate for students with parents and staff to ensure holistic success.
Eligibility Verification: Ensure all participants have current physical exams, insurance verification, and parental consent on file.
Academic Standards: Enforce the athletic academic code by conducting weekly eligibility checks.
Safety & Reporting: Document and report all athletic injuries and ensure proper medical supplies are available and accessible at all home contests.
4. Personnel & Equipment Oversight
Staffing: Assist the Principal in recruiting, interviewing, and recommending the hiring or renewal of coaches and extracurricular advisors.
Evaluation: Complete annual performance evaluations for all coaches and sponsors.
Inventory Management: Maintain an updated inventory of all equipment and uniforms; requisition new supplies within the established budget in coordination with Booster Clubs.
Qualifications
Administrative Qualifications
Licensure: Must possess a current/valid Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) with proper Administrative Endorsements.
Evaluator Status: Must have completed Teacher Evaluation Training or have a documented plan to complete it by the Summer of 2026.
Personal Attributes: Must be a proactive, energetic team player and student advocate. A high level of discretion in handling confidential student and personnel information is mandatory.
Salary/Benefits
Terms of Employment
Schedule: 220 Day Calendar, including frequent evening and weekend duty. The DSAD is expected to supervise 75-80% of all home contests.
District Business: Provided time for attending away Regional, Sectional, and State Championships.
Social Media: Responsible for posting celebrations and updates to the school's social media, as needed
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 depending on experience
