Assistant Principal

Duties

  • Coordinates efforts with building principals to establish and implement a shared mission and vision for the school that leads to academic growth for all learners.
  • Supports principal in developing, implementing, and monitoring the outcomes of the district/school goals which measure academic achievement and school climate indicators.
  • Develops, in collaboration with the principal and staff, consistent instructional practices which reflect effective teaching and learning that includes a rigorous and relevant standards-based curriculum.
  • In collaboration with the building principal, evaluates the effectiveness of instruction and of individual teachers by conducting formal and informal observations and provides timely, specific feedback as part of the district teacher appraisal system.
  • Utilizes meaningful feedback from the students, staff, families and community in the evaluation of instructional programs and school procedures.
  • Maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in district professional growth programs.
  • Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
  • Participates in school-wide activities, in-services, and committees as appropriate.
  • Implements Board approved policies and procedures in addition to State and Federal laws.
  • Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school and assume leadership of the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Assists in the supervision of student enrollment, records, attendance, and health requirements.
  • Promotes and maintains open communications, positive student attitudes, respects dignity and worth of staff and students, and complies with established lines of authority. 
  • Oversees the athletic and extracurricular programs which includes related personnel, board policies, established procedures, and program evaluations.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the principal or superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in the field of education required.
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative or Principal endorsement.
  • Performance Evaluation Qualifications (Teachers) required.
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience (elementary preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of learning theory, current educational trends, program planning, curriculum development, and management of instructional programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience using formative assessment and other student data to improve instruction and the provision of academic and social supports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and oral/written communication. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders.

Salary/Benefits

Annual salary $60,000 minimum with Board paid TRS contribution. Paid single medical health insurance and Board paid $10,000 life insurance.

Additional Notes

The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with the school principal to support the success of all students in the school, including building the professional capacity of school staff; communicating effectively with parents and the community; and supporting student learning. Plays an integral role in the establishment and maintenance of a school climate that is conducive to learning, including overseeing the enforcement of school rules and regulations, and the implementation of disciplinary measures when deemed necessary. Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school and assume leadership of the school in the absence of the principal.
