Performance Responsibilities
The criteria listed below describe the essential functions of the position. The exclusion of specific responsibilities does not preclude the assignment of related duties.
Student Health Services & Compliance
1. Coordinates and implements district health services and health office procedures.
2. Maintains compliance with Illinois School Code and Illinois Department of Public Health requirements regarding student health records, immunizations, and physical examinations.
3. Conducts mandated vision and hearing screenings and coordinates follow-up services as needed.
4. Maintains accurate and confidential cumulative health records for students.
5. Provides first aid, emergency care, medication administration, and care for ill or injured students and staff.
6. Develops procedures for medication administration, storage, and documentation in accordance with district policy and physician orders.
7. Monitors medication effectiveness and communicates concerns to parents/guardians and medical providers.
8. Implements emergency care procedures and develops health-related accommodations for students as needed.
9. Authorizes exclusion and readmission of students in connection with communicable and infectious diseases in accordance with state guidelines.
10. Completes and maintains accident and incident reports for students and staff.
11. Makes appropriate assessments and referrals related to suspected abuse or neglect as a mandated reporter.
Attendance, Health Monitoring & Student Support
12. Monitors student attendance and collaborates with administrators regarding excessive absences and tardiness.
13. Assists in identifying student health concerns that may impact attendance, learning, or school participation.
14. Conducts home visits when appropriate or requested.
15. Provides health-related resources and referrals to students, families, and staff.
16. Advises staff regarding student health concerns, accommodations, and classroom supports.
17. Participates as a member of student support and problem-solving teams, including IEP and student services meetings.
Qualifications
Qualifications
• State of Illinois fingerprinting and background check in compliance with state code and district policy requirements. A fingerprint-based criminal history records check and a check of the Statewide Sex Offender Database and Violent Offender Against Youth Database (when available) will be performed on the successful candidate as required by State law. Each newly hired employee must complete an Immigration and Naturalization Service Form as required by federal law.
• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Certified School Nurse endorsement preferred.
• Valid Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) License required.
• Illinois Department of Public Health certification in vision and hearing screening required.
• Current CPR/AED certification required.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing, education, or related field preferred.
• RN candidates with ISBE IEP designation will be considered.
• Knowledge of Illinois School Code, public health requirements, communicable disease procedures, and school nursing practices.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Computer literacy and proficiency with student information systems and district technology.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and collaborate effectively with students, staff, families, medical providers, and community agencies.
Additional Notes
Collaborates with administrators, teachers, related service providers, and families to support student health and wellness.
19. Participates in school health planning, health education initiatives, and district committees as assigned.
20. Attends conferences, professional development, and countywide health meetings to remain current on school health practices and requirements.
21. Supervises and supports nurse aides or delegated health staff as assigned.
22. Maintains communication with local and state health agencies regarding health requirements, reporting, and notifications.
23. Supports sanitary and safe conditions throughout district facilities.
24. Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and positive working relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
25. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Student Services.
