Allied Health Teacher (Medical Terminology $ Phlebotomy APPLY ONLINE

Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Teach Medical Terminology curriculum during the first semester.
  • Teach Phlebotomy curriculum during the second semester, including laboratory and clinical skill development.
  • Provide CNA clinical instruction on Tuesdays and Thursdays at assigned clinical locations.
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans aligned to Illinois Learning Standards, CTE standards, and industry expectations.
  • Provide hands-on instruction using industry-standard equipment and procedures.
  • Prepare students for applicable industry certifications and credential opportunities.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varying student learning needs and abilities.
  • Maintain accurate student grades, attendance, competency records, and student progress documentation.

 

Clinical & Internship Coordination

  • Collaborate with and supervise CNA clinical experiences in partnership with healthcare facilities. (Managed by CNA Program Coordinator)
  • Schedule, assign, and monitor Allied Health student internships and clinical placements.
  • Develop internship schedules and ensure students are appropriately assigned during days the instructor is conducting CNA clinical instruction.
  • Communicate regularly with healthcare partners regarding student expectations, attendance, performance, and placement logistics.
  • Monitor student professionalism, workplace readiness, and compliance within clinical and internship environments.
  • Ensure all required student documentation, certifications, immunizations, and compliance requirements are completed prior to clinical placement.

 

Classroom & Laboratory Management

  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, sanitation, HIPAA, and bloodborne pathogen protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of instructional supplies and equipment.
  • Reinforce professional behavior, communication, confidentiality, and ethical standards expected in healthcare professions.

 

Student Support & Career Readiness

  • Promote employability skills including teamwork, communication, professionalism, and time management.
  • Assist students in exploring healthcare career pathways and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Support work-based learning opportunities and maintain strong partnerships with regional healthcare providers.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, sending districts, and administration regarding student progress and program expectations.

 

Program Responsibilities

  • Participate in program advisory committee meetings and collaborate with local healthcare professionals and partners.
  • Assist with student recruitment activities.
  • Maintain compliance with all IDPH, and WACC program requirements.
  • Participate in professional development activities to remain current with healthcare industry standards and instructional practices.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois ISBE Career and Technical Education endorsement/licensure OR ability to obtain appropriate licensure.
  • Current CNA Instructor qualification and/or ability to meet Illinois CNA clinical instruction requirements preferred.
  • Background required.
  • Phlebotomy experience and/or certification preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, administration, healthcare partners, and students.

 

Preferred Qualifications: (Not Required)

  • Experience working in clinical, long-term care, or hospital settings.
  • Experience coordinating internships, clinicals, or work-based learning placements.
  • Experience teaching high school or adult learners.
  • Current healthcare-related certifications.
  • Familiarity with dual credit, certification programs, or Career and Technical Education programming.

Contract Terms:

  • Salary and benefits based on education, experience, and board-approved contract.
  • School-year calendar and work schedule as established by WACC.
