Truancy Caseworker

Duties

  • Conduct intake interviews and needs assessments with referred students and families.
  • Provide case management, progress monitoring, and follow-up for assigned students.
  • Partner with school social workers, counselors, and administrators on intervention plans.
  • Develop attendance improvement plans with measurable goals and timelines.
  • Facilitate referrals to support services such as mental health resources, transportation, special education, or community agencies.
  • Conduct home visits to support engagement and attendance improvement.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, case files, and progress notes.
  • Provide regular updates to districts on student progress, data trends, and outcomes.
  • Support parent education workshops and preventative programming focused on attendance.
  • Assist in court preparation and attend truancy hearings when required.
  • Responsible to attend administrative, planning, and informational meetings as requested
  • Responsible for a work day consisting of eight hours in addition to a half hour lunch.
  • Employee work will occur at Regional Office and in the field.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with children
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with social service agencies
  • Able to utilize technology—email, ISBE reporting systems, Google Drive, Google Sheets; Must be able to operate office equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills,including ability to effectively communicate
  • Ability to follow direction and work independently
  • Team player with willingness to support departmental decisions
