School Social Worker 2026/2027

Duties

Student Support and Intervention

  • Provides individual and group counseling to students to address social-emotional needs, grief, trauma, or behavioral challenges.
  • Conducts functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and assists in the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Facilitates crisis intervention and prevention services for students in immediate distress.
  • Identifies and addresses barriers to student attendance and academic engagement.
  • Advocates for student needs within the school environment to ensure an equitable learning experience.

Special Education and Section 504

  • Participates as a core member of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams.
  • Completes social-developmental histories and evaluations as part of the initial and three-year re-evaluation process for special education.
  • Monitors and reports on student progress toward social-emotional IEP goals.

Communication and Consultation

  • Acts as a liaison between the home, school, and community providers to coordinate wrap-around services.
  • Consults with teachers and administrators regarding classroom management strategies and trauma-informed practices.
  • Provides families with referrals to community resources (e.g., mental health clinics, food pantries, housing assistance).

 

Performs all other duties reasonably related to the position as may be assigned by the Building Administrator or Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid IL Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Social Worker endorsement as required by the State.
  • Must be familiar with the use of computers, including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, Google, and electronic spreadsheets.
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  • Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate with students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs

Salary/Benefits

Certified Educational Professionals – Local 743 Granite City Federation of Teachers: Starting pay of $53,430 with TRS. *GCSD9 can honor up to 10 years of previous public-school teaching experience at $83,923 with TRS.
