Outdoor Education & Recreation Educator
Duties
- Program Development - design and implement outdoor curriculum aligned with Illinois state standards.
- Instructional Leadership - lead students in hands-on activities, including classroom nature programs, guided hikes, nature observation, and team-building exercises.
- Recreation Partnerships - develop a resource of available outdoor programs and lead in coordination of schools to best utilize these programs. Coordinate school-wide recreational events and outdoor field trips.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) preferred.
- Deep knowledge of local Illinois flora, fauna, and ecosystems.
- Ability to traverse varied terrain in all weather conditions, potentially walking 3-5 miles per day.
- Additional Credentials - CPR/First Aid certification.
Salary/Benefits
- Estimated salary - $45,000 - $50,000 per year (commensurate with experience).
- Work schedule closely aligned with the 2026 school calendar.
