Duties
Teaches students in a high school low-incidence self-contained setting, providing individualized instruction in functional academics including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, in alignment with State of Illinois law and Board policy. Designs and implements lessons that emphasize real-world application of academic skills.
Provides direct instruction in independent living skills, social-emotional development, and vocational skills to support post-secondary readiness. Plans and facilitates community-based instruction to promote generalization of skills in authentic environments.
Serves as case manager for students with disabilities, including development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), progress monitoring, and maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. Leads IEP meetings and collaborates with families and educational team members.
Works collaboratively with paraprofessionals and related service providers to implement instructional programming and supports that meet the diverse needs of students. Establishes a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree; one to two years of related experience and/or training preferred. Must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate LBS1 Endorsement.
Demonstrated experience in writing and implementing IEP goals, progress monitoring, and leading IEP meetings. Knowledge of functional curriculum, transition planning, and community-based instruction is preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to supporting students with diverse learning and developmental needs.
