The Next Leader
The Board of Education seeks a dynamic and inspirational leader who embraces the mission of Flossmoor School District 161 to: “Provide equitable opportunities that engage, inspire, and empower students to develop their individual skills and collective strengths.” The ideal candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment as a leader serving a diverse community, a distinctive background in instruction, outstanding communication skills, a collaborative philosophy, and the ability to involve all stakeholders in the process of growth and change. The current superintendent is leaving the school district after 9 years to assume a similar role in a larger school district.
The District
Flossmoor School District 161, located 25 miles south of downtown Chicago, serves 2,300 students pre-K - grade 8 from the Village of Flossmoor and portions of the neighboring towns of Chicago Heights, Hazel Crest, Homewood, and Olympia Fields. The District’s five schools–four elementary and one junior high school are all rated by the Illinois State Board of Education as either commendable or exemplary. The schools are well-funded with an average per pupil expenditure of $20,000.
District 161 is a diverse school district. Sixty-six percent of its students are Black, 16% Hispanic, 10% White, and 7% are 2 or more races.

The process will be conducted as a “rolling” search. Applications will be assessed as they are submitted, and screening interviews will be conducted throughout the application period. The application deadline is May 4, with the new superintendent expected to be selected later in the month. District 161 expects to offer a base salary of $200,000 - $250,000, with a robust package of benefits.
