K-2 Special Education Teacher for 2026-2027

Duties

  • Strive to ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Plans and writes an individualized education program which meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of each student using computer software
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students across varied age ranges
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and—in harmony with the goals—establish clear objectives for all lessons, units; projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  • Monitors student progress on a scheduled time frame
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Common Core/Early Learning and Development Standards
  • Consults and plans educational experiences with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis
  • Involves parents in the planning process for each child’s educational program through periodic parent conferences, including home visitation
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with the supervisor, evaluates their job performance
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Attends meetings, in-service programs and serves on staff committees as required
  • Utilize technology in the educational setting
  • Able to utilize non-violent crisis physical intervention using a team concept
  • Design and define rubrics for units of study
  • When appropriate and consistent with District policies and the student’s IEP, uses physical holds or physical restraints to prevent students from harming themselves or others.
  • Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal

 

Qualifications

Professional Educator License as set by state certification authorities and the action of the Joint Agreement governing authorities. LBS1 certification. 

Salary/Benefits

Regionally competitive.  Based on Franklin - Alexander Classroom Teachers' Organization Local # 4010 contract. Board-paid TRS.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to be present at work on a consistent basis.
  • Demonstrates professional demeanor (behavior, appearance, and communication in representing the organization)
  • Ability to move, carry and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time, paying attention to detail
  • Ability to kneel, bend and crouch
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to communicate policies, procedures, and objectives effectively
  • Must be capable of working under pressure as well as organizing and planning effectively
  • Requires frequent ability to move on a consistent basis
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance or have other means to travel within the Four Rivers Special Education area, including getting to work and going to other locations during the day.
