Duties
JOB OVERVIEW:
To use leadership, supervision and administrative skills so as to best promote the educational development of each student. Primary responsibility is the improvement of instruction, with a majority of time being spent on curriculum and staff development.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
- Assist the principal with the recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, and evaluation of diverse certified and non-certified staff
- Supervises the necessary rules of conduct for all phases of the school program
- Assists in the evaluation of the school’s certified and classified staff
- Assumes responsibility for the school in the absence of the Principal
- Fosters good interpersonal relations among students and staff
- Exercises decisive leadership in crisis situations
- Serves, with the Principal, as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school, encouraging participation, and making recommendations for improvement
- Conducts teacher and support staff evaluations according to district guidelines
- Plans, schedules, and facilitates building wide meetings amongst various teams and programs
- Assists in the creation of the master schedule and class building
- Participates in Leadership meetings and other such meetings as may be required by the Superintendent
- Serves on the school improvement team and assists in writing school improvement plan
- Assists in the responsibility for the accurate and punctual preparation of all school reports as required by the principal
- Serves as LEA for 504 and IEP meetings
Teaching and Learning
- Assists in supervising the school’s educational program
- Assist the principal with the implementation of programs, curriculum, delivery of instruction, and assessment of student performance
- Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum
- Cooperates with other members of the staff in the development of the instructional program and provides leadership in the development of the program at the school
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings approved by the Superintendent, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field
Community and Safety
- Administers the building in a manner consistent with the health, welfare, and safety of students and teachers
- Assists the Principal in a school public relations program and cooperates with system wide efforts in this direction
- Informs all assigned personnel regarding procedures and disseminates information from the Principal and Superintendent
- Assists with the responsibility for the supervision and implementation of the school’s athletic and other extracurricular activities
- Assists in monitoring and supervising the expenditure of all school petty cash and activity funds
- Assumes, with the Principal, responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant
- Communicates with transportation provider to address issues, student behavior on the bus, and other situations
- Assists in monitoring use of school building by outside groups
- Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, taste, and smell. The employee is occasionally
required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
