Middle School Visual Arts and Technology 1.0 FTE

Qualifications

  • Valid Professional Educator License
  • Visual Arts (VART)Endorsement
  • Technology Specialist (TESP)Preferred 
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university

Performance Responsibilities: 

  • Assess student progress towards targets and standards, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Communicate clearly and accurately with students and parents to provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
  • Deliver instruction to engage all students, adjusting lessons based on student progress to enhance academic and interpersonal skills.
  • Design instructional materials that align with individual learning plans and state and district standards.
  • Administer assessments to evaluate student competency and plan for instructional groups.
  • Direct and support student teachers, instructional assistants, and volunteers to provide an effective classroom program.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records to monitor student progress.
  • Manage student behavior, classroom procedures, and physical space to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Reflect on teaching strategies and lesson effectiveness to improve student achievement.
  • Respond to emergencies and report incidents to ensure student safety and compliance with policies.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations, creating a conducive learning environment.
  • Plan programs that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Encourage and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and materials suitable for students needs.
  • Guide learning towards curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons and units.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive school environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and a strong sense of community among students and staff.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to enhance the educational environment, demonstrating a positive attitude and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Implement the district’s philosophy and goals, and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Regularly assess student accomplishments and provide progress reports.
  • Collaborate in identifying and addressing the needs of students with specialized requirements.

Art Certified Staff Specific

  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive middle school visual art curriculum aligned to Illinois Learning Standards and National Core Arts Standards.
  • Provide instruction in a variety of traditional and contemporary media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and mixed media.
  • Integrate technology tools and digital platforms to enhance creative expression, design thinking, and student engagement.
  • Foster creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and artistic risk-taking in a developmentally appropriate middle school environment.
  • Incorporate interdisciplinary connections between visual art and core content areas, including literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • Promote student portfolios that document artistic growth, reflection, and mastery of skills and concepts.
  • Organize and support student exhibitions, showcases, and community art events.
  • Maintain and manage art supplies, equipment, and studio space in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Teach and reinforce proper use and care of art materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Plan, organize, and execute at least two evening art shows annually to showcase student work, including coordinating displays, student preparation, family communication, and event logistics.

STEM Integration Responsibilities

  • Design and implement project-based learning experiences that integrate visual art with STEM concepts (STEAM framework).
  • Incorporate engineering design processes, innovation, and problem-solving into instructional units.
  • Utilize technology tools such as digital design software, coding platforms, 3D printing, robotics components, and multimedia production tools as appropriate.

  • Promote computational thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving through hands-on STEM applications.
  • Collaborate with science, math, and technology teachers to develop interdisciplinary units and cross-curricular projects.
  • Facilitate student inquiry, experimentation, and iterative design practices.
  • Support district technology initiatives and digital citizenship expectations.
  • Stay current with emerging educational technologies and STEM best practices to enhance instructional programming.

Salary/Benefits

Salary Range:

Salary and benefits to be established in the Negotiated Agreement with the Board of Education. Commensurate with experience, however, the starting salary for the 2026-27 school year is $52,680.79.
