Director of Equity and Strategic Initiatives

Duties

The Director of Equity & Strategic Initiatives will embody the district mission, serving the needs of our diverse community by providing relevant and rigorous learning experiences, opportunities for involvement, and strong support systems that empower all students to reach their full potential, while upholding our values of communication and accountability, equity and inclusion, financial integrity, innovative learning, and safety, wellness, and respect.

The Director of Equity & Strategic Initiatives will expand educational opportunities and student support through strategic external funding while strengthening equitable practices across programs and systems. By aligning grant procurement, program implementation, and equity initiatives with district priorities, this position will help to ensure that resources are used effectively, programs demonstrate measurable impact, and students have equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities and support systems.

The role also provides the district with the capacity to proactively pursue funding opportunities that sustain innovation, strengthen instructional programs, and support initiatives that address opportunity gaps.

 

Position Purpose

The Director of Equity & Strategic Initiatives will provide districtwide leadership focused on securing and managing external funding, advancing equitable educational practices, and coordinating strategic initiatives that expand opportunities for students.

This position leads the district's efforts to identify, procure, and manage state, federal, and private grants that support instructional programs, student supports, and innovative initiatives. This role coordinates diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to ensure that district policies, programs, and practices promote equitable access, inclusive learning environments, and improved outcomes for all students, while also having specific oversight to Title grants.

The Director works in close collaboration with district leadership, school administrators, and program leaders to ensure that grant-funded initiatives and equity-focused efforts align with district priorities, demonstrate measurable impact, and support continuous improvement across schools.

Essential Functions:

  1. Lead and implement a districtwide grant strategy aligned with district priorities, instructional goals, and equity initiatives.
  2. Identify, secure, and manage state, federal, and private funding sources, including Title I, II, III, and IV.
  3. Coordinate grant development and submission in collaboration with district and school leaders.
  4. Oversee grant administration, including budgeting, compliance, implementation, and reporting.
  5. Monitor and evaluate grant-funded programs to ensure effectiveness and measurable outcomes.
  6. Advance districtwide equity efforts by embedding inclusive and culturally responsive practices across programs and systems.
  7. Use data to identify opportunity gaps, guide improvement efforts, and expand access to rigorous learning and student support.
  8. Support the design, alignment, and evaluation of strategic initiatives that increase student access, engagement, and success.
  9. Collaborate across departments to ensure coherence between grant-funded programs and district priorities.
  10. Provide reports and recommendations to district leadership and the Board based on program outcomes and data analysis.
  11. Identify future funding opportunities based on program needs, outcomes, and strategic priorities.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with Illinois administrative licensure
  • Building Administrative Experience (Strongly Preferred)
  • Experience in grant writing, grant management, or program development in educational settings
  • Demonstrated understanding of equity-focused practices and initiatives in schools
  • Strong experience with program evaluation, data analysis, and strategic planning
  • Experience facilitating collaboration across departments and leading districtwide initiatives
  • Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills

Salary Range:
$159,581 to $179,725
